I’m getting ready to buy my house. I know to do a 30-yr fixed rate. I’m just wondering what is the buzz about subprime home loans? It seems to really be hurting people and mortgage companies. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks.

It seems like this would be challanged (sucessfully) in court since the laws when the contract was signed didnt allow modification. I can understand how they could mandate that future mortgages are capable of being modified but not those already written… seems kinda like ex post facto.

For instance, if EURO interest rates are reduced, how does it affect EUR/USD exchange rates. Common sense dictates that the EUR/USD would decrease in value as people flock to currencies with higher returns. But this is not only always the case. It may be not the actual reduction in rates, but the commentary (optimism/pessimism for the future) that goes along with it. Comments?

I have a first loan and a second. I called a lender who wants me to short sale it instead of foreclosure because he said the second will remain a lein against me even after I lose the house (it is with Washington Mutual). Is that true? I lost my job and can’t make the payments, and can’t sell it because the value got appraised at $250,000 and my mortgages add up to $400,000.
I thought they are secured by the property, not by my life.
